When we're not busy cooking,
Michael and I like to try out new restaurants around The Valley. Just
give us a call, we'll do lunch or dinner.
American
Chompie's
South East corner of 92nd Street and Shea, Scottsdale. Are you from
New York and miss your New York style deli? Well, we have one in
the valley. The menu in the restaurant is huge! It will take at
least five minutes to read it. If you have lost your New York accent,
I guarantee you'll get it back by the end of the meal.
Dickie's Dogs
10101 East Bell Road (in the McDowell Mountain Marketplace), Scottsdale.
Been transplanted from Chicago? Missing your Hot Dog or Italian
Beef fix? There are numerous places in the valley where you can
fulfill your craving. However, if you want the best, try Dickie's
Dogs. The Hot Dogs remind you of your favorite Chicago Hot Dog haunt.
The fry's are Debbie's favorite thing. They are home-made and delicious.
Fajitas A Sizzlin Celebration
9841 North Black Canyon Highway(I-17 and Peoria). Fajitas are their
specialty and the margaritas aren't too bad, either.
Pinnacle Peak
Patio
10426 E. Jomax Road, Scottsdale. If you like a REALLY good steak,
then this is the place. Also, come for the western atmosphere, country
western dancing, and the old time village.
Rock Bottom
Brewery
This is a micro-brew pub and restaurant. However, do yourself a
favor and don't go for the food. The beer is excellent and the "growler's"
are an exceptionally good value. A growler is a half gallon of beer
that you can take home with you. Try this for a party sometime (You
will really be a hit).
Scottsdale
Community College Culinary Arts Restaurants
9000 East Chaparral Road, Scottsdale. We feel this is Scottsdale's
best kept secret. For lunch, it's the Artichoke Grill and for dinner,
go to The Desert Oasis Restaurant. The parade of desserts is just
a nice added touch. At night, what a perfect setting to enjoy the
McDowell Mountains and a superior meal.
Mosaic
10600 E Jomax Road, Scottsdale. Chef Deborah Knight has been recognized as one of America's
best and brightest chef's. This is "the" super romantic restaurant. Do not expect to discover your favorite
dishes here. Chef Knight believes in changing her menu often and also in not reusing a recipe.
Chinese
Flo's
14850 North Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard, Scottsdale. We think it's
the best Chinese food in the valley. If you have a favorite Chinese
dish that's not on the menu, just ask. The chef takes personal requests.
Two dishes not on the menu that we love are orange flavored chicken
and cinnamon shrimp. The restaurant fills up very quickly so come
when it just opens, otherwise you might have a long wait. Flo has three restaurants in the valley.
We have also tried the Hong Kong Market and the Asian Kitchen. The Asian Kitchen servers dishes from many different
Asian Countries. The Hong Kong Market serves predominantly cuisine from Hong Kong
Indian
Taste of India
1609 E. Bell Road, Phoenix. We have tried various Indian Restaurants in the Valley. It took many years to find this one and they are the absolute best. Debbie absolutely loves the Chicken Korma. Me, I prefer the Chicken Vindaloo (and make it really spicy!).
Italian
Sniff... All of our old favorites are history....
Korean
Restaurant Takamatsu
3002 North Arizona Avenue, Chandler. Michael lived in Seoul, Korea
for two years so we just had to find a good Korean restaurant. We
think we found a great one. You can do the grilling at your table
so it's a fun place to take friends and family. We suggest the bulgogi
and the bi bim bap.
Pizza
Organ Stop
Pizza
1149 East Southern Avenue, Mesa. This is a wonderful place to take
out of town guests who love organ music. The Wurlitzer organ is
quite an instument to listen to. This is a restaurant where you
can take people from the age of 8 months to 108 years. You go to
listen to the music and not necessarily go for the pizza. The ice
cream is good, though.
Pizzafarro's
7120 East Mercer Lane, Scottsdale or 36889 North Tom Darlington,
Carefree. The sauce has a little zing. The pepperoni and sausage
are always fresh. There is a little wait as everything is done to
order but it's definitely worth it.
May 2005
We have changed some of these. Some of our old restaurant favorites are no longer.
