Babci’s Kapusta
1 package yellow split peas
1 large can sauerkraut
1 large head cabbage
4 or 5 spare ribs
Salt pork
Wash peas and boil 5-10 minutes (place in water ¾ full)
Shred cabbage and place in pot.
Par-boil for 10 minutes.
Make sure you cover cabbage with water.
Cut up salt pork and fry it (do not burn)
Remove ribs from water. Save water. Cool.
Strain cabbage and throw out water.
Add a can of sauerkraut (add juice from can, too)
Add split peas- water and all. Mix.
Strain spare ribs’ water into mixture.
Add spare ribs (cut into pieces)
Add salt pork and juice.
Boil for one hour.
